I wana busk so bad, but the culture where I live, you only busk if you are homeless or messing a leg and stuff. So i would feel like im taking there money away. And i dont want to do that.

Amazing video, man. Super relatable for me. I always wanted to be a musician but ended up working a "real job" instead. I was traveling the world and traveling light, so i didnt even own a guitar at the time. It was someone else's dream. I enjoyed it but it got old after a while. Just recently i settled down longer term in Australia and decided to buy a guitar, amp, etc. I dont have a band these days but who cares - if i want to make music, i can. So i started busking and its been going really well. Im improving super fast and getting really great feedback from people. Not sure where it will lead but its more enjoyable than the past few years for sure. Anyway, just relating to your story. Really appreciate you sharing - this inspired me a lot today. Thanks my friend!

Busking is NOT begging or panhandling ......it is performing an entertaining service and if you want to support a busker you can or just walk by if you dont . Homeless panhandlers peform no service because they are lazy and entitled people who expect free money from total strangers while they provide no service . Fact is they often have drug habits and this is often the reason they are homeless in the first place ......i never give them a dime because in most cases they deminish the quality of life for many people. I will always drop a fiver in a buskers tip jar though because they enhance the quality of everyday life.

I don't understand where the notion comes from that a person can't have a career and also be a successful musician. It must be from watching garbage like American Idol. I've been a performing musician for 44 years. I've traveled regularly to shows across three East Coast states, been on television multiple times, recorded two studio albums, opened shows for quite a few famous recording artists, and written songs played on radio. I've performed in clubs, bars, nursing homes, racetracks, colliseums, and arenas. I've sung the National Anthem at baseball games. I'm also a retired telephone lineman, a father of three, and a grandfather of four. You don't have to be a STAR to be successful in music. And I can tell you from experience that the "music business" is not the glamorous world people think it is. It is a dirty business. Sure, I had the same dreams every young musician has of making the "big time". And I was on my way. But after getting my fill of being exploited and ripped off by booking agents, promoters, and others, I decided on a new direction. I went about finding a productive career and a more secure future. And I approached music, from then on, as a hobby. I remained very active in performing, and booked as many gigs as I wanted to play. I retired at age 57. I'm more active now musically than at any other time in my life. I'm currently in two 3 piece classic rock cover bands and I perform regularly at church. And I've also put together a three hour acoustic solo show I plan to begin booking very soon on weeknights. It sounds cliche, but I attest it's true. Even though I have the aches and pains of aging, I'm having more fun musically now than I've ever had. And I do it on MY terms. For me, success in music isn't based on money or fame. Success is in the enjoyment I still get from performing with and for others. And I'm as thrilled playing and singing for my grandchildren at home as I am for an audience in a club. I hope you're soon able to find the direction that's right for you. I hope you can define success for yourself and are able to achieve it as well as peace and happiness throughout your life.

That was interesting, especially when you stressed out the difference between the singing techniques. So far I just busked in small towns, where amps are not allowed. Although it's quite quiet there I believe playing with an amp would turn out as you said at the end: it would have an impact on the money received. Furthermore the cities where you are allowed to play amplified here in Germany you hve have to pay a fee in advance. Is it for free in Ireland?

I use a Roland Street Cube Ex. I busk and power it with rechargeable batteries. I can easily go 2+ years with them so power is never an issue for me. I run my iPad for backing tracks and a guitar.
